Those with a keen eye on social media may have spotted online chatter about the sheer length of of new play The Oresteia, written and directed by Simon Stone, and based on the classic Greek tragedy trilogy by Aeschylus. Initial previews reportedly clocked in at the best part of five hours; by press night this had been substantially reduced to about three hours 40 minutes, but it’s still very much theatre on an epic scale. Thankfully it is broken down into three acts of about an hour each, with two intervals – it’s manageable, but it’s certainly a big commitment.
