With the 50th anniversary of Mike Leigh’s classic play Abigail’s Party rapidly approaching, now seems a fitting opportunity to revive this class comedy on the West End. Debuting in 1977 at the Hampstead Theatre, and almost immediately being made into a renowned BBC Play for Today later that same year, it tells the story of Beverly (Tamzin Outhwaite), an aspirational middle-class housewife who is hosting a cocktail party. Over the course of an evening we meet her husband Laurence (Kevin Bishop), new neighbours Tony and Angela (Omar Malik and Lauren Patel), and their recently-divorced neighbour Sue (Pandora Colin).
