Violet Chachki has finally opened up about “stealing” Sharon Needles’ Drag Race crown in a new interview.
Back in the early 2010s, the two beloved queens made headlines after Sharon’s coveted crown went missing during her appearance at an Atlanta drag pageant.
At the time, fans theorised that Violet was behind the disappearance of the bejewelled headpiece after she uploaded a photo with a similar crown via social media (per Project Q Atlanta).
The crown’s mysterious disappearance was even the subject of a hilarious Drag Race season five promo titled Ru-Dunnit?
After 10 years of mystery and suspense, Violet finally opened up about the incident during a recent episode of her No Gorge podcast with Gottmik.
“I performed in the pageant where Sharon [Needles] was wearing her crown – where I stole her crown. [But] I didn’t actually steal the crown. My friend [censored] stole the crown,” she explained.
“Sharon [Needles] was there in Atlanta judging a pageant. And, of course, as you do, you wear your crown to judge the pageant, and you give the scores.
“It was very official. I was backstage and my friends were all backstage helping me. It was, like, loose security back in the day.”
Violet went on to say that after competing in the aforementioned competition, she attended a bar with her friends. However on the way to the establishment, her friends revealed that they had a surprise for her.
“They were like, ‘We got you something’ and I remember being like, ‘If this is Sharon Needles’ crown, I’m going to kill you,'” she explained.
“They pop the trunk of their Mercedes, and it’s literally Sharon’s crown sparkling at me in the back seat. And I’m like, ‘No!'”
Violet then revealed that after watching the Ru-Dunnit teaser for Drag Race season five, she decided to take a photo of herself in the crown and set it as her Facebook profile picture.
“So we’re watching Jinkx [Monsoon’s] season and this commercial on Ru-Dunnit? And it’s on YouTube, and it’s literally a commercial about who stole Sharon’s crown. Then I was like, ‘I’m just going to post a picture of me wearing it,” she continued.
“And then it was like articles came out and then the local newspaper picked it up.”
In response to the jaw-dropping story, Gottmik called the Los Angeles-based queen a “scandalous person”.
At the end of the story, Violet confirmed that Sharon’s crown was eventually returned to her by their mutual Radical Faeries friends in Atlanta.
“Sharon has the crown back because my friends were all Radical Faeries. And I guess Sharon’s, like, friends with Radical Faeries too. I don’t know,” she explained.
There you have it, folks. The tea of Sharon’s missing crown has finally been spilt.
