Glee star Jane Lynch is joining Beanie Feldstein in the Broadway revival of the classic musical Funny Girl.

According to a report from Deadline, she’ll be playing opposite Feldstein’s Fanny as her mother, Mrs Rosie Brice.

In a statement, the 61-year-old actress expressed her excitement for the iconic role.

“I grew up to the Broadway cast album of Funny Girl,” Lynch said. “My mother and I knew every breath of that record and would sing it together at the top of our lungs. I am thrilled beyond words to be playing Fanny’s mother on Broadway.

“And somewhere in heaven my mom is asking ‘Who taught her everything she knows?'”

Alongside Lynch’s casting, Ramin Karimloo and Jared Grimes are also set to star in the revival as Nick Arnstein and Eddie Ryan, respectively.

“I’m very excited to be joining Funny Girl’s return to Broadway,” Karimloo said in a statement.

“I’ve been waiting [two] years to sink my teeth into Nicky Arnstein and get into the room with Michael Mayer, the creative team and cast, led by the exceptional Beanie Feldstein.”

Grimes expressed similar sentiments, stating: “It will be a dream to share the stage every night with this cast and creative team whom I’ve loved from afar for such a long time…”

Earlier this week, the hype surrounding the show rose to exceptional heights after a first look trailer was released.

The short video featured Feldstein walking across the stage in a glorious ensemble to the instrumental of Don’t Rain On My Parade.

At the end of the teaser, we hear the Booksmart actress say the iconic phrase: “Hello gorgeous.”

In a sneak peek feature from Entertainment Tonight, the production’s director Michael Mayer described Feldstein as a “fabulous” Fanny Brice.

“She’s delightfully funny, warm, intelligent, a charming singer and dancer, and truly a ‘bagel on a plate full of onion rolls!’” he said.

“I’m beyond excited to collaborate with Beanie as we bring this iconic musical back to Broadway where it belongs.”

The feelings of admiration seem to be mutual for Feldstein, who praised Mayer for his “distinctly fresh, joyful and singular” work.

“He knows Broadway in his bones, and to be guided by that is such an exceptional gift,” she explained.

“We’ve got to spend some time together recently, now that I’m back in New York. I just feel like we’re cut from the same cloth; we get each other.”

The Funny Girl revival will be making its way back to the Broadway stage on 24 April 2022 – with previews taking place in March.
