Alexander Khinshtein, a Russian MP, said that media like Peppa Pig and South Park are “a tool of hybrid war” as they depict LGBTQ+ themes.
In a clip shared to Twitter by Francis Scarr of the BBC, the politician stated that “traditional values” must be protected.
“We must protect our society and our children. Let me very quickly demonstrate what kind of propaganda is already being waged against our society,” he added.
He proceeded to flick through some of the slides on his presentation, showing screenshots of Call Me By Your Name, South Park and what he described as “seemingly a very well-known cartoon” – Peppa Pig.
“In one episode,” he explained, “a polar bear is drawing a portrait of her family and says: ‘I live with my mummy and my other mummy.’”

Khinshtein’s comments come as lawmakers consider extending Russia’s ‘LGBTQ+ propaganda’ laws to all adults.
Despite homosexuality being legal in the country since 1993, LGBTQ+ people face ongoing societal challenges there.
Hate crimes based on sexual orientation and gender identity are not prohibited by law and no anti-discrimination protections for LGBTQ+ exist.
