Maitreyi Ramakrishnan has revealed that she’s not very big on labels when it comes to dating.
Over the last three years, TV enthusiasts have immersed themselves in the hilarious Netflix comedy series Never Have I Ever.
The show, which is co-created by Mindy Kaling and Lang Fisher, follows Devi, an Indian-American teenager attempting to balance the pressures of her home life, the death of her father and a complicated love triangle.
Since its debut, the show has earned critical acclaim for its honest yet funny exploration of grief, friendship, family, sex and LGBTQ+ identity.
Ramakrishnan – who plays the boy-crazy Devi – has also been lauded for her multi-layered performance – which recently earned her People’s Choice Award nominations for Female TV Star and Comedy TV star of 2022.
While her character’s love triangle continues to wreak havoc in the show’s third season, the 20-year-old actor recently revealed that her real dating life is a bit more mellow and not just limited to men.
“I’m very much so a personality type of person. If you get that banter with me, you can read my face perfectly, I don’t care if you’re a boy, girl or in between,” she explained on a recent episode of Laverne Cox’s E! series If We’re Honest.
“You are my person, and you are just the package that the person comes in. I’m very much about the personality, and I don’t really do labels for attraction. It’s just someone who understands me.”
Ramakrishnan also told Cox that she wasn’t looking for a new romantic partner at the moment before admitting that her last relationship occured in high school.
“The other day, I said to Mindy [Kaling], ‘I think I’m just more of a badass when I’m single. Right now in my life, I am so happy just doing me and being there for myself,” she explained.
