Kit Connor’s recent transformation is a result of backlash from Heartstopper fans.

The actor’s trainer, YouTuber and fitness model Nathaniel Massiah, recently shared a new video titled “Training Movie Star Kit Connor For His Next Film.”

Massiah also posted some stills on Instagram, which shows Connor looking significantly more “jacked” than his appearance in the first season of the breakout Netflix series.

In the video, Massiah asked Connor about the details behind his newfound love for working out, to which he responded: “The reason I got into the gym was kinda deep, to be honest.

“When I got cast in Heartstopper, it’s based on a comic book and the character that I’m based on is like 6 foot 2, very big. I was shorter than I am now and skinnier.”

When Connor’s casting was announced, he said there was resistance from select fans who claimed he was “a bit too skinny” to play the character of Nick Nelson, for which he won the Children’s and Family Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Performance.

“I saw that and was like, ‘Shit.’ I just started eating loads. I was like, ‘If I’m eating this much, I might as well [train].’ I started just doing push-ups, I was doing like 200 push-ups a day and then the only thing that was developing was my chest,” continued Connor.

“There’s bits, if you look at Heartstopper, there’s a couple points where I’m wearing quite a tight shirt and… Yeah, the boobies were looking quite large. I was thinking, ‘Yes!’ but then I started properly hitting the gym.”

Because of the title of Massiah’s video, fans are speculating as to whether Connor has been cast as a character that requires him to have a more muscular build – such as the much-rumoured role of Hulkling in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Hulkling is one of Marvel Comics’ most iconic gay superheroes and is known for his relationship with Wiccan, a character who first appeared as the child of Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) in WandaVision (2021) and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022).

Wiccan, who is yet to appear in adult form in the MCU, is rumoured to make a comeback in the forthcoming MCU series Agatha: Coven of Chaos. Joe Locke, Connor’s co-star in Heartstopper, is rumoured to play him.

However, Connor does have two upcoming films that might require the aforementioned change in appearance: A Cuban Girl’s Guide to Tea and Tomorrow and One of Us.

The former, based on Laura Taylor Namey’s best-seller, will also star Maia Reficco and Kate del Castillo.

One of Us is an “allegorical” horror film following member of a family who “begin dying one by one at a funeral, while Youngest (Connor) searches for the stranger in their midst.”

Filming in Belfast, Northern Ireland, One of Us will also star Callum Woodhouse (The Durrells), Charlotte Hope (The Spanish Princess), Siobhan Fallon-Hogan (Rushed) and Ian Beattie (Game Of Thrones).

Connor will also return to his role as Nick in the upcoming second season of Heartstopper, which is set to premiere sometime in 2023. Visit here for everything you need to know about season two.
