Drag Race fans were living for Shangela at the Oscars

Started as a baby now she’s all grown up!

Drag Race star and icon Shangela attended the 91st Academy Awards last night due to her appearance in Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper’s acclaimed musical drama, A Star Is Born, and fans were – in RuPaul’s words – “so proud, so proud to see it.”

The legendary contestant – who starred in the second and third seasons of the show, and later, All Stars 3 – walked the red carpet with one of her best squirrel friends, Jenifer Lewis, who she memorably impersonated on Snatch Game.

Because she looked positively sickening, the queen went viral on social media, with many fans noting how far she’s come since her one-episode stint on the Emmy Award winning show’s second season.

“Shangela went from playing Jennifer Lewis on snatch game to being her BFF at the Oscars,” said one user. “We can only stan!”

Another tweeted: “Drag queens are at the Oscars because a movie they’re in is nominated for Best Picture. That is so fucking epic. So proud of Shangela and Willam.”

When asked about her groundbreaking appearance on the red carpet in drag, Shangela said: “Honestly, I’m just so grateful to be here. And I think I might be one of the first, if not the first, drag queens, in drag, to ever walk down the red carpet at the Oscars.

“And I hope that means something to somebody out there, because it means something to me.”
