As RuPaul’s Drag Race continues to export its Emmy-award winning format, more and more countries are snapping it up. And the latest country to confirm its own version of the show is Australia.
TV Tonight revealed earlier today that ITV Studios Australia has landed a deal to air Drag Race Australia, although what channel it will be broadcast on is unknown.
What is also unknown is, whether like with Drag Race UK, RuPaul and Michelle Visage will be coming along, or whether like with Drag Race Thailand, the show will have a different host. Perhaps Courtney Act could be in the running?
Speaking to TV Tonight, David Mott, the CEO of ITV Studios Australia, said: “Yes, ITV Studios Australia have secured the rights to arguably one of the biggest formats globally at the moment.
“With Drag Race UK about to launch and already a major hit in the US and other territories we are set to shantay onto Australian screens in 2020.
“Drag Race has moved on to being a show that captures the imagination of everyone, no matter their age or gender and we will commence discussing with potential broadcast and streaming partners shortly.”
He added: “It will be one of the most talked about and noisy formats next year.”

Since becoming a global hit, Drag Race has exported to several countries like Drag Race Thailand, Drag Race Canada, and of course Drag Race UK.
Drag Race UK will begin airing in October, with the competing queens being Baga Chipz, Blu Hydrangea, Cheryl Hole, Crystal, Divina De Campo, Gothy Kendoll, Scaredy Kat, Sum Ting Wong, Vinegar Strokes and The Vivienne. You can read our exclusive interviews with all the queens here.
Earlier this week, BBC Three revealed unveiled a teaser of RuPaul sashaying down the Drag Race UK runway for the first time.
After shantaying down the main stage in a sickening green frock, Mama Ru calls Michelle Visage a “royal pain in my arse” and welcomes new main judging panel member, Alan Carr and guest-star Andrew Garfield.
Drag Race Australia is expected to air in 2020.
