One of the most excellent parts about the LGBTQIA+ community – and I say one, because there are many –  is that it represents a very diverse group of people.

While some might bemoan the myriad ways we can use labelling for self-identification, I feel only joy. As a community that faces varying levels of prejudice, understanding who we are, naming it and having the language to explain the nuances of our identities is nothing short of empowering.

Particularly so when it comes to identities that are often misunderstood or mischaracterised, which is often the case for asexual people, who are estimated on average to make up around one per cent of people.
