Mexico's first-ever openly gay mayor, Benjamin Medrano Quezada, has died at 59.
The violent attack took place last Tuesday (7 July) in the city of Guadalajara. According to authorities, the former mayor of Fresnillo, Zacatecas, was shot several times in the face after leaving a ice cream shop in the Santa Elena de la Cruz neighbourhood.
