Based on the 2015 novel Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda, the 2018 rom-com memorably made history as the first film by a major studio to follow a gay teenage romance. 

Nick Robinson starred as Simon Spier (Nick Robinson), a closeted teen who begins an anonymous email romance with another closeted boy at his school. Garner played his mother, Emily Spier.
