The seventh season of Married At First Sight UK is set to feature two LGBTQ+ couples.
Back in May, a source close to the show revealed that the series’ first-ever lesbian couple would be featured in the forthcoming season.
“Married At First Sight had a male same-sex couple last year, and now they will have a female same-sex couple. Everyone who works on the show is excited that it’s happening,” a source close to production told Metro.
“It’s another small milestone for the series when it comes to diversity and inclusivity. The hope is that including a lesbian couple will break down some stereotypes.”
Now it looks like the aforementioned couple won’t be the only queer people to be featured in the new batch of episodes.
On 10 June, E4 revealed that a same-sex male couple would be joining the upcoming season of Married At First Sight UK.
Shortly after the news was announced, relationship expert Mel Schilling expressed her excitement for the couple’s inclusion.
“We take the matchmaking process extremely seriously and when it comes to finding and matching our couples, it’s so important to us that we find matches that are authentic and reflect the diversity of the society we live in,” she said.
“That’s why I’m so thrilled that this year we’re welcoming not just one, but two same-sex couples into the fold. I’m really looking forward to you meeting them – they are firecrackers and sure to keep you entertained.”
Channel 4 Factual Entertainment Commissioning Editor Lee McMurray echoed similar sentiments, stating: “I am delighted to be making MAFS history by featuring two same-sex couples in a show that is committed to and celebrates diversity.

He added: “They are part of fantastic new cast whom I’m sure viewers will fall in love with.”
The LGBTQ+ inclusive news comes a year after fan favourites Matt Jameson and Daniel McKee became the series’ first-ever same-sex couple.
Throughout the show’s sixth season, the two lovebirds delivered romantic and heartwarming moments – with Daniel describing them as “a dream team.”
Even though the duo were one of the strongest couples of the season, they did run into one problem regarding their living arrangements.
Due to Daniel living in North Ireland and Matt in Leeds, the pair split their time in each other’s respective homes.
However, shortly after appearing in the series, the couple revealed that Matt was headed to Northern Ireland after all.
In a 2021 interview with OK! Magazine, Matt expressed his excitement over the move, stating: “Northern Ireland is the most beautiful place I’ve ever been to.
“We’ve obviously had to discuss it a lot and. like in any relationship, there’s been a bit of backwards and forwards.”
The new season of Married At First Sight UK is expected to return to E4 and All 4 later this year.
