Disney Plus has shared the first official images for FX’s upcoming mystery thriller series A Murder at the End of the World.
Formerly known as Retreat, the limited series stars Emma Corrin as a “new kind of detective” called Darby Hart, who is described as a “Gen Z amateur sleuth and tech-savvy hacker”.
Additional stars include Clive Owen (Impeachment: American Crime Story), Harris Dickinson (Postcards from London), Brit Marling (The OA), Alice Braga (We Are Who We Are), Joan Chen (Twin Peaks), Raúl Esparza (Hannibal), Edoardo Ballerini (Boardwalk Empire) and Pegah Ferydoni (Almania).
The official synopsis reads: “Darby and eight other guests are invited by a reclusive billionaire (Clive Owen) to participate in a retreat at a remote and dazzling location. When one of the other guests is found dead, Darby must use all of her skills to prove it was murder against a tide of competing interests and before the killer takes another life.”
A Murder at the End of the World is created and directed by Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij, who executive produced alongside Andrea Sperling, Melanie Marnich and Nicki Paluga. The seven-episode series premieres on Disney Plus in the UK and Ireland this August.
Corrin is best known for playing Diana, Princess of Wales in the fourth season of Netflix’s historical drama, for which they received universal critical acclaim and a Golden Globe Award, in addition to a Primetime Emmy nomination.
Last year, they made their film breakthrough in Michael Grandage’s adaptation of My Policeman, which also stars Harry Styles, David Dawson, Linus Roache, Rupert Everett and Gina McKee.
Corrin, who historically became the first non-binary person to cover American Vogue, continued to receive praise for their performance in Lady Chatterley’s Lover on Netflix, based on the novel of the same name by D. H. Lawrence.
They have also been confirmed to star in Robert Eggers’ reboot of the horror classic Nosferatu alongside Lily-Rose Depp, Bill Skarsgård and Nicholas Hoult, as well as Deadpool 3.
