Callum Scott Howells leads a defiant celebration of queer history in Madfabulous
Madfabulous is a perfect fit at BFI Flare – a celebration of a life, a legacy and a way of being that still feels radical today.

It feels fitting that Celyn Jones’ Madfabulous premiered at BFI Flare, one of the UK’s biggest celebrations of LGBTQIA+ storytelling. Starring Callum Scott Howells, Ruby Stokes and Rupert Everett, the film honours a figure who refused to dim his light, despite the constraints of an increasingly conservative society.
Telling the story of the “Dancing Marquess,” Henry Cyril Paget, Madfabulous leans into the spectacle and curiosity that surrounded the flamboyant British peer in a way that feels particularly relevant today. On the pink carpet, the cast and creatives spoke to Gay Times about making the film that finally gives Henry his flowers.
