The mainstreamifcation of LGBTQIA+ media is often a one-step forward, two-step back sort of deal. On the one hand, shows like Heated Rivalry that have put sex, romantic tension and same-sex intimacy upfront are lauded. But would it be as successful and popular with audiences if the show centred on two women, instead of two men?
