Ezra Miller has spoken about gender in a new interview.
The American actor and musician – who stars as Credence Barebone in forthcoming blockbuster Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald – has elaborated more on their identity (or lack thereof) under the umbrella term of queer.
Ezra first came out as queer back in 2012, and has been visible member of the LGBTQ community in Hollywood while snagging roles in huge franchises like Fantastic Beasts and as The Flash in the DC Comics cinematic universe.
Speaking about their position as a queer person, Ezra told Hollywood Reporter: “Yeah, absolutely. Which is to say, I don’t identify. Like, fuck that.
“Queer just means no, I don’t do that. I don’t identify as a man. I don’t identify as a woman. I barely identify as a human.”
The former Gay Times cover star also briefly spoke about their own #MeToo moment, when they were propositioned by an unnamed director and producer.
“They gave me wine and I was underaged,” Ezra said. “They were like, ‘Hey, want to be in our movie about gay revolution?’ And I was like, ‘No, you guys are monsters.’

“It’s a great fuckin’ age of being like, ‘You know what? That shit’s unacceptable,’ And it’s amazing for a lot of us to watch. ‘Cause, like, we all knew it was unacceptable when we fucking survived it.
“That’s what Hollywood is. I thought we all knew we were sex workers.”
Meanwhile, Ezra recently said that Albus Dumbledore’s sexuality is very clearly defined in the upcoming Harry Potter spin-off Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.
“It’s a funny idea to me that every form of representation has to look the same,” Ezra said. “For me, personally, I find Dumbledore’s queerness extremely explicit in this film. I mean, all around.
“He sees Grindelwald, his young lover who’s the love of his life; he sees him in the Mirror of Erised.
“What does the Mirror of Erised show you?” they added. “Nothing more than the most desperate desire of your heart. If that’s not explicitly gay, I don’t know what is.
“I think it’s also really powerful to have characters who are fascinating, dynamic people, doing magical works in the world, and that the story does not only pertain to their sexuality.”
Ezra will reprise their role as Credence Barebone in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, which will be in cinemas on 16 November.
