Ariana Grande is back with a massive new single, and we couldn’t be happier.
When the pop superstar announced her imminent return with a new track called No Tears Left To Cry, many fans were left wondering if it would be a ballad, especially following the tragic bombing that took place at her concert in Manchester last year.
But what we’ve actually been blessed with is a big slice of 90s-influenced joy that offers a sense of hope for the future, which we imagine is exactly what those affected by the attack – or the negative state of the world in general – need the most.
“Right now I’m in a state of mind, I wanna be in like all the time, ain’t got no tears left to cry, so I’m picking it up, I’m loving, I’m living,” she sings on the soaring chorus, while the lush verses promise that she’s “too fly to partake in all this hate”.
Sonically, it’s like nothing she’s ever done before, and feels like an excellent progression from the industrial beats and dark aesthetic of her last release, 2016’s Dangerous Woman. We’ve got producers Max Martin and ILYA to thank for that.
Ariana also dropped a brilliant music video for the single, which sees her defy gravity as she traverses a bleak city landscape. It’s undeniably one of the most aesthetically pleasing things she’s ever released. C’mon, budget!
Keep an eye out for the lovely tribute to Manchester at the end of the clip, as a worker bee – one of the city’s most iconic symbols – flies across the screen.
