One of the world’s longest-running and most significant LGBTQIA+ film festivals, BFI Flare has unveiled the full programme for its landmark 40th anniversary edition – and it’s a reminder of exactly why the festival is such a vital force in global queer cinema.

From 18-29 March, BFI Southbank will once again transform into a buzzing hub of packed screenings, filmmaker Q&As, panels, DJ nights and community moments that stretch far beyond the screen.

This year’s programme includes the festival’s signature thematic strands – HEARTS, BODIES and MINDS – alongside a brand-new anniversary strand, TREASURES, dedicated to celebrating the history of LGBTQIA+ film. With 31 World Premieres, 65 features and 62 shorts in total, representing 47 countries, it’s a line-up that feels both global and deeply personal, spanning riotous documentaries, tender romances, transgressive horror, political non-fiction and quietly radical coming-of-age stories.
