We caught the previous run of Arcadia, widely regarded as Tom Stoppard’s masterpiece, when it played at The Old Vic. This is the West End transfer of that same production: we really enjoyed it back then, so we went in with high expectations - which were suitably matched, perhaps even exceeded. In a fitting tribute to the celebrated playwright, it was announced on opening night that the venue for this show (The Duke of York’s Theatre, on London’s West End) would soon be renamed The Tom Stoppard Theatre.
