We’ve had a pretty stellar summer of new theatre so far – whether we’ve been enjoying wonderful new queer musicals including Pride and Midnight at the Never Get, or epic revivals of classic plays from Arcadia to The Oresteia, we’ve been really spoiled for choice. The law of averages would suggest, however, that at some point we’d stumble across something we didn’t enjoy – the unfortunate recipient of that dubious honour goes to new musical Trainspotting, based on the cult novel by Irvine Welsh, which was subsequently adapted into a seminal Danny Boyle film in 1996.
