Words by Philip Baldwin

Peter is the CEO of the Peter Tatchell Foundation. He is also arguably one of the most significant figures in the queer rights movement of the past half-century. Peter helped organise the UK's first Pride in London in 1972, and has marched in every Pride London parade since – 54 in total.

It was great to interview Peter for Pride Month. Peter is, as always, forthright in his views and he raises a number of issues central to how we progress as a community. He suggests new approaches and radical thinking at a time when Britain is changing more rapidly than at any time since the Second World War.

This interview challenged me, but it is vital that we listen to Peter even if we disagree, as we are currently experiencing a push from the right to erase the identities of trans, non-binary, gender diverse and, ultimately, all queer people. There is no LGB without the TQIA+. Peter’s words are thought-provoking and come at a time when his voice is needed more than ever.
