Pedro Pascal and Danny Ramirez’s upcoming gay romance film will be R-rated, according to director Todd Haynes.
In a red carpet interview with Variety, Haynes revealed that De Noche – which has finished filming, with a release date yet to be confirmed – will “most likely be an R-rated film”. However, he said he didn’t feel the need to make its visual language “prurient”.
“What’s going on between the two men is so complex and so moving, but ultimately, it’s a love story,” he said. “They’re exposing themselves to each other, and they’re exploring things about their masculinity, their vulnerability.”
De Noche is set to follow the “unexpected love affair” between a police officer and a schoolteacher in 1930s Los Angeles, “when the city is overtaken by corruption and the world is on the brink of war”.
