We do enjoy checking out shows at the Dorfman Theatre, the smallest of the three spaces at London’s National Theatre. It’s often a launchpad for brand new productions that go on to bigger and better things – this summer we caught the new Pride musical here, which is about to transfer to the Bridge Theatre for the winter season. We recently ventured back to the Dorfman to check out Some Woman, a new play by Helen Edmundson, which is directed by Blanche McIntyre.

So what’s it all about? The story centres around Julie (Anne-Marie Duff), who is middle aged and divorced; she has two grown up daughters, one of whom still lives at home. She’s bogged down with a variety of life’s difficulties – trying to support her younger daughter, who has some mental health issues, with a university application, which doesn’t seem to be going well; she’s constantly overlooked for promotion at work; and she’s trying to sell the family home she can no longer afford to keep.
