The Bible and the LGBTQIA+ community haven’t historically had the, erm, easiest relationship. But in June – during Pride Month, no less – the two collided with the arrival of the breakout horror film Leviticus. Written and directed by Adrian Chiarella, the film follows Naim and Ryan, two teenage boys who form a connection in a small, conservative town in Victoria. Their budding romance is soon thrown into turmoil when a violent entity begins stalking and terrorising them, taking “the form of the person they desire most – each other”.

Leviticus has earned rave reviews from critics and viewers for its blend of queer romance, horror and coming-of-age-themes. Currently boasting a 92% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, the film has also thrust its two leads – Joe Bird and Stacy Clausen – into the cultural zeitgeist. So, here’s a get-to-know explainer for the breakout stars behind Naim and Ryan.

Where are Joe Bird and Stacey Clausen from?

Bird and Clausen are both based in Australia. Before calling Adelaide his home, Bird was born in Liverpool, England. Clausen was born and raised in Melbourne.
