A federal judge in Texas mentioned the late Dolly Parton while striking down legislation targeting drag shows. 

Back in August 2023, the state's Republican governor Greg Abbott signed Senate Bill 12 into law, which restricted "sexually oriented performances."

While the piece of legislation did not cite drag shows explicitly, drag performers and their allies feared that it was passed with the intention of criminalizing the art form.
