Thanks to his leading role in Obsession, Michael Johnston is quickly emerging as one of the breakout stars of 2026.

Written and directed by Curry Barker, the supernatural horror centres on Baron “Bear” Bailey (Johnston), a music store employee who’s in love with his childhood friend and co-worker, Nikki Freeman (Inde Navarrette). After breaking a mysterious toy that grants the user one wish, Bear asks for Nikki to fall in love with him. His wish is granted, but with horrifying consequences that leave him fighting for his life.

The official synopsis reads: “After breaking the mysterious ‘One Wish Willow’ to win his crush’s heart, a hopeless romantic finds himself getting exactly what he asked for but soon discovers that some desires come at a dark, sinister price.”

Since its release, Obsession has earned rave reviews from moviegoers and critics alike, with praise directed at its horror elements, multilayered storytelling and cast performances – including Johnston’s.
