There will be a general election on 12 December.
With the general election fast approaching, we took a look at what the three main parties were saying about LGBTQ people in their recently released manifestos – and more importantly, what they weren’t saying.
Labour
Led by Jeremy Corbyn
- Reform the GRA to introduce self-declaration for trans and non-binary people
- Remove all remaining areas of anti-LGBTQ legislation
- Mandatory LGBTQ-inclusive education
- Remove outdated language from the Equality Act of 2010
- Tackle LGBTQ homelessness
- Fully funded sexual health services, including a roll-out of PrEP
- Appoint a dedicated LGBTQ Ambassador to the Foreign Office

- Complete reform of the GRA
- Introduce ‘Gender X’ option on passports
- Require schools to introduce gender-neutral uniform policies
- Address paternity leave inequalities for same-sex couples
- Offer PrEP on the NHS
- Extend the Equality Act to include all large companies with more than 250 employees
- Stop the blood ban on LGBTQ people
- Ensure adequate funding is given to mental health services, and that these services are LGBTQ-inclusive
- Make all hate crimes aggravated offences
